JARBOE
Jarboe‘s current performance is melodic vocals with solo acoustic guitar in raw rock based songs. The songs performed are from the 2013 self-released DREAMS cd, as well as songs from the INDEMNITY series – to be released on vinyl September 2013 by Burning World Records (Netherlands). An intense two month tour of Australia, New Zealand and Europe commences November 2013.
The 2013 set features P. Emerson Williams on acoustic guitar and vocals.
Jarboe draws from a variety of charged sources: growing up in the Mississippi delta, NewOrleans street life and Mardi Gras, parents in the FBI, experimental performance, living in NYC’s east village during the post no-wave scene, studies in literature and theatre, a history of critically acclaimed recordings and collaboration in Swans and worldwide concerts (clubs, theaters, art galleries, cathedrals, festivals, live radio, TV).
Her voice and music can be at turns innocent, knowing, seductive, & vitriolic – in melodic as well as experimental compositions. A primary objective for Jarboe is to close in on the gap in the audience/performer relationship. Jarboe’s agenda over the course of her life has been to fine tune endurance – physical, emotional, and spiritual. Through efforts in both past and present disciplines which have included weight-lifting, kick boxing, mountain climbing, running, role-playing, studies in meditation and Buddhism and her intense work with Swans, she has journeyed her body towards exhaustion specifically with the intent of rebuilding / reinventing identity and exploring the elemental structures of persona.
Jarboe’s musical explorations have been noted for penetrating the male-dominated rock subculture with work in and outside of the legendary Swans receiving international critical attention.
