-Temps Zero-

Photographers Biography:
MICHAEL ACKERMAN
TEMPS ZERO // MICHAEL ACKERMAN
Born in 1967 in Tel Aviv. Lives in Berlin.
Since his first exhibition, in 1999, Michael Ackerman has made his mark by bringing a new, radical and unique approach. His work on Varanasi, entitled “End Time City“, breaks away from all sorts of exoticism or any anecdotal attempt at description, to question time and death with a freedom granted by a distance from the panoramic -whose usage he renewed- to squares or rectangles.
In black and white, with permanent risk that led him to explore impossible lighting, he allowed the grainy images to create enigmatic and pregnant visions. Michael Ackerman seeks -and finds- in the world he traverses, reflections of his personal malaise, doubts and anguish. He received the Nadar Award for his book “End Time City” in 1999, and the Infinity Award for Young Photographer by the International Center of Photography in 1998. In 2009, he won the SCAM Roger Pic Award for his series “Departure, Poland“. His last book “Half Life” has been published in 2010 by Robert Delpire.
In 2014, he collaborated with Vincent Courtois, cellist, and Christian Caujolle, behind the project, in a show called “L’intuition” which proposes a dialogue between photography and music creation. This show was presented, in particular, as part of the festival Banlieues Bleues and for the Rencontres d’Arles 2014.

Photography was a hobby on the side. After her university studies, she decided to dedicate herself to photography and she went to Paris where she worked as an assistant for several photographers.
In 2002, she felt the need to come back home. Inspired by the rich and enigmatic Basque country, she started a series of photographs where landscapes, animals or humans are revealed as impressionist visions.
She pursues her work on portraits of women, one of her favorite subjects, and on Portugal where she travels regularly. This series are continuous and interrelated. Gabrielle’s photographic world seems voluntarily detached from all temporal or social reality, she is seeking beautiful images that exist outside of any context, on their own. She has already published 3 books, works with press, edition or for musicians. Her work is also regularly exhibited. In 2012, Gabrielle Duplantier appears in “MONO“, edited by Gomma books, monography of the best contemporary black and white photographers along with artists such as Michael Ackerman, Trent Parke, Anders Petersen, or Roger Ballen. ALISA RESNIK
TEMPS ZERO // ALISA RESNIK
Alisa was born in 1976 in St. Petersburg, Russia & lives in Berlin.
“Time is a jet plane, it moves so fast” and in its impetuous flight people and things rushing before our eyes are bound to hide their inner essence. Within this endless time flow we roam, craving a single moment of sincerity.
Photography is the way to stop a moment and have a chance to look deeper into ineffable reality, to step over this usually painful dichotomy between the subject and the object. It is the way to build the safe shelter of sensation on the quicksands of rationality, to feel at home looking from the window of a passing train.
Leaden-coloured sceneries, dying factories, echoed empty halls, old rooms still keeping a subtle feeling of the past, and faces, people’s faces… Hurried glances, small awkward gestures, hands searching for a support, grief or harshness in the corner of an eye – they’re all like birds ready to flutter out of their nests in search of your sympathy, to break through the glass of loneliness.
These images materialize into projections of your memories and start living their own lives. They tell the stories for you, the stories you might think you’ve seen with your own eyes. They combine colour and shape with your dreams and feelings, becoming part of you, and you’re sentenced to return to them again and again.
So you roam over the world looking for the moments you could stop and turn into the act of perception, looking for a revelation, looking for a mirror… Always looking for a mirror…

LARA TABET
TEMPS ZERO // LARA TABET
Born and lives in Beirut.
Lara Tabet (b. 1983) is a Lebanese pathologist and visual artist. In 2010, as she was finishing her residency in Clinical Pathology at the American University of Beirut Medical Center, Tabet participated in a workshop led by Klavdij Sluban during the Rencontres Internationales de la photographie in Arles.
In 2012, she completed a one-year, full time program at the International Center of Photography in New York and was the recipient of the Lisette Model scholarship. She has been exhibited internationally in New York, Beirut, Arles, Bruxelles, Toulouse, Lecce, London, Singapore…
Her works mainly questions photography in relation to both documentation and performance for the camera and the spectrum of realities that lies in between. Often taking the landscape as a starting point, she oscillates between the memory a place holds, and the significance it takes on once being photographed and transgressed.
She is currently residing in Beirut, where she continues to explore the themes of memory, trauma, the city, and the body.
Lara Tabet is represented by Galerie Janine Rubeiz, Beirut.
